چکیده

Cutaneous clear cell adnexal carcinoma was found in the right lip of a 14-year-old male castrated Shih Tzu. Histologically, the tumor mostly consisted of neoplastic cells with clear or vacuolated cytoplasms and contained frequent tubular structures. Neoplastic cells showed coexpression of pan-cytokeratin (CK) and vimentin by double-labeled immunofluorescence staining. In addition, immunohistochemistry revealed that the tumor cells were positive for pan-CK (AE1/AE3, KL1, CAM 5.2), CK-7, CK-8, CK-14, CK-15, CK-18, vimentin and alpha-smooth muscle actin (SMA) with varied intensity and positivity. Among these marker proteins, SMA was positive in 75% of the tumor cells. On the other hand, CK-15, which is a specific marker of follicular stem cells, was expressed in less than 1% of the tumor cells. Based on these findings, the tumor showed diverse differentiation in apocrine sweat glands and the inner and outer root sheaths of hair follicles, indicating the follicular stem cell to be the origin of this tumor.

A Comparative, semi-quantitative Evaluation of Myofibroblasts Between Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma and Pleomorphic Adenoma Using α -Smooth Muscle Actin Marker

Abstract Introduction: Myofibroblasts are the main stromal components that constitute the desmoplastic reaction of host cells to inductive stimuli exerted by tumor cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the score of myofibroblasts using α -smooth muscle actin marker (α–SMA) in mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) in comparison with pleomorphic adenoma (PA)and study the amount presence of t...

A rare case of cutaneous leiomyosarcoma in budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus)

Leiomyosarcoma in birds is relatively rare. This tumor as a muscle neoplasm was reported in captive and free ranging birds. Smooth muscle cells may develop to the leiomyosracoma, but splenic smooth muscle trabeculae is most common site of the tumor growth. Although budgerigars have an incidence of neoplastic diseases but smooth muscle tumors were rarely reported in this species. To the best o...

TGF-ß1 Latency Associated Peptide Promotes Remodeling of Healing Cutaneous Wounds in the Rat

Background: The process of wound healing involves integrated events including inflammation, granulation tissue formation, matrix deposition and remodeling. Growth factors play a key role in the process. Among them transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) is known to accelerate tissue repair by promoting the synthesis and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins. However, persistence or overact...

Value of CD10 Expression in Differentiating Cutaneous Basal from Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Basal Cell Carcinoma from Trichoepithelioma

Background: In addition to the well-defined histological criteria for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), immunohistochemical techniques can be used in difficult cases for their differentiation. As differential diagnosis between trichoepithelioma (TE) and BCC is sometimes difficult for the clinician and the pathologist, CD10 may be a useful marker for definite diagnosi...
